What are Septic Tank Baffles and Why are they Important???
A septic tank has an inlet and outlet baffle. Usually these baffles are made from concrete and are part of the tank construction. The inlet baffle slows the flow of liquid entering the tank and decreases the turbulance allowing the solids to settle in the bottom of the tank. The outlet baffle helps to retain the solids and prevent them from leaving the tank and travelling to your absorption area.
A tank without an outlet baffle can compromise the longetivity of your septic system and cause pre-mature failure.
What Happens Without an Outlet Baffle???
The outlet baffle helps to retain the solids and prevent them from leaving the tank and travelling to your absorption area. Escaping solids can cause a coating in the absorption area. The coating seals the area preventing the absorption of liquids and inhibiting the breakdown of the solids through bacterial growth.
Simple Procedure to Replace!!!
Maine Septic & Pumping can replace your outlet baffle by inserting a new plastic sanitary tee. The replacement will help to retain the solids and begin to protect the absorption area again.
